Simulation of Swirling Flow with a Vortex Breakdown Using Modified Shear Stress Transport Model

چکیده
The well-known Shear Stress Transport (SST k–ω) turbulence model was modified and examined. Two industrially relevant problems with curved rotating channels have been selected to assess the modification potential: a lid in confined cylinder swirling flow through three-dimensional abrupt expansion pipe. postulated amendment simplified rotation curvature correction term that suggested earlier by Smirnov Menter [J. Turbomach. 2009, 131 (4) 041010]. new formulation avoids calculation of complex Lagrangian derivatives implementing Richardson number (Ri) applied function. numerical computations were performed using OpenFOAM-2.4.x. results show expected capability Curvature Correction Modification (SSTCCM) handle effects system rotation. paper compares SSTCCM conventional eddy viscosity models (EVMs): standard k–ϵ; Re-Normalization Group (RNG) k–ϵ, original SST k–ω.

Axisymmetric vortex breakdown Part 1. Confined swirling flow
A comparison between the experimental visualization and numerical simulations of the occurrence of vortex breakdown in laminar swirling flows produced by a rotating endwall is presented. The experimental visualizations of Escudier (1984) were the first to detect the presence of multiple recirculation zones and the numerical model presented here, consisting of a numerical solution of the unstead...

Numerical simulations and measurements using PIV and LDV have been carried out for steady vortex breakdown inside a closed container. The numerical solution has been employed as a benchmark to assess the capabilities and limitations of the experimental techniques in a difficult flow case involving a double breakdown in the limit of the
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Confined Vortex Flow Using a Modified k Turbulence Model
The turbulent flow in a tangential inlet / tangential outlet vortex tube is numerically simulated using a modified k turbulence model. The results are compared to experimental measurements from literature. The modified model shows better agreement with the local tangential velocity measurements compared to the standard and RNG k turbulence models. The flow structure is also demonstrated...
متن کاملHierarchical Vortex Regions in Swirling Flow
We propose a new criterion to characterize hierarchical two-dimensional vortex regions induced by swirling motion. Central to the definition are closed loops that intersect the flow field at a constant angle. The union of loops belonging to the same area of swirling motion defines a vortex region. These regions are disjunct but may be nested, thus introducing a spatial hierarchy of vortex regio...
